This last week I've been coming to the studio everyday. A self-created "residency" before summer is over and my time gets swallowed up by school. I wanted to spend at least 3 hours in the studio every day for two weeks but, consistently I've only done about an hour every day. Establishing a routine is the key and even if I haven't spent as much time in the studio as I had planned, I have enjoyed the daily routine. It feels good to get up early and put some time in before going back home to have breakfast with the family. The painting is moving along at a slow pace, which in a way works, because it gives me time to think.
There's no rush. The upside of not being a full-time artist is there's no financial pressure to complete and sell work. I can enjoy the process of learning how to be a better painter at my own pace.
